Making a positive impact on students

Danielle Reader of Kimball spent 15 years working at Clean Harbors and five years at Edward Jones before deciding to work in education. She became a math teacher in Kimball eight years ago, and now she’s in her first year as the principal at Kimball junior/senior high school. She says she’s elated she made a career change to education, for her biggest passion is helping kids flourish both in school and in life.

KIMBALL – Danielle Reader loved math growing up, so when she graduated from Edmond Memorial High School in Oklahoma in 1987, she knew she wanted to pursue a career that involved math.

Therefore, she attended Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1993.

She was interested in working in the engineering field, but in the back of her mind, she thought she might also like to teach someday, particularly math. So, she stayed at Colorado School of Mines a little longer, taking some courses that would help her become certified as a teacher.

“I’ve always enjoyed helping anyone I could with math, so teaching was definitely an option,” she said.

She didn’t explore that option, though, until later in life.
