NSPIRE TODAY! BUSINESS COLUMN: $99 special at Alarm Security Technicians; classes at Fullen School of Hair Design; a spotlight on Prairie Pines Quilt Shop’s Kathleen Roehl, and much more

Want to know what’s going on inside and outside your home when you’re away from home? Would you like to have a way to scare off someone who’s trying to break into your home while you’re sleeping? Or how would you like to control your home’s security remotely?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you should check out Alarm Security Technicians, a local company in Scottsbluff that’s been serving residents throughout the WyoBraska region for the last 10 years.

Mike Soundsleeper, owner of Alarm Security Technicians, has been involved in the alarm security business for about 20 years.

Alarm Security Technicians offers a variety of ways for people to secure their home, and one of its best deals going on right now is a 24-hour security monitoring package that’s only $99 installed. That’s quite a deal considering the value of the package is about $1,000.

The package comes with one controller, one HD camera, one motion sensor, two door contacts, one siren, and one key fob.

Anyone who signs a three-year contract for Alarm Security Technician’s 24-hour security monitoring service can get the security system package for $99 installed. The service is only $48.95 per month, and customers can cancel the service after three years. However, after three years of service, customers get to keep all components of the security monitoring system.

Soundsleeper said the $99 installed package has been quite popular in Scotts Bluff County and the surrounding areas since he began offering the special security package price.

“Everybody loves these systems because they’re affordable and also because they’re user-friendly,” he said. “You can control everything on your phone using an app. You’ll get a key pad that will be in your home, but you don’t have to be at your key pad to do anything. You can watch your cameras, change your thermostat, look through your front door bell and talk back and forth through that, turn your lights on and off, and control the system right on your phone. It’s really an all-in-one home system. Plus, the footage is stored in the cloud, so you can always pull it up, and it’s easy to download footage.”

The components of Alarm Security Technician’s monitoring package are made by Honeywell.

“These are really quality cameras,” he said. “The image is really good, and they’ll last a long time. I like to use Honeywell because it has a great reputation.”

But what if one of the security pieces, like an outdoor camera, does stop working? Alarm Security Technicians will come out to repair or replace it for free for customers who are signed up for its service.

Soundsleeper said he’s been hearing lots of positive feedback from customers who have been using the cameras and other features of the $99 package.

“It gives people a big piece of mind, especially when they’re away from home,” he said. “If you’re gone, you want to know if someone is trying to get into your home. If you have this system armed, you’re going to know. You’ll get notifications on your phone. For example, if you have a camera that’s pointed out toward your backyard, you can get notified that something is moving in your backyard.”

In addition to the cameras and motion sensors, another key piece of the package is a siren that AST usually installs in one of the main areas of the home.

“If there’s a burglary and the system is armed, the siren will go off,” Soundsleeper said. “It’s going to be really loud, and it will start flashing different color lights. That’s a deterrent. If someone is breaking into your house and you’re asleep, the siren is mostly likely going to scare them away.”

Soundsleeper said AST sells both indoor and outdoor cameras. The indoor cameras have audio. Other components, such as extra cameras, can be added to the $99 package for an additional charge.

“We can install the cameras anywhere where people want them,” he said.

As for the controller that goes inside the house, it can do more than just control the alarm system. It also shows the time and date and five-day weather forecast, and it also has the ability to notify homeowners about special alerts, such as a tornado warning.

To take advantage of the special $99 installed package price, people can call Alarm Security Technicians at 308-575-0172.

Spotlight on Prairie Pines Quilt Shop’s Kathleen Roehl

Kathleen (Spitzenberger) Roehl of Scottsbluff has been working at Prairie Pines Quilt Shop in Gering for 16 years.

She said she loves her job at Prairie Pines.

“I’ve enjoyed it very, very much, and I’ve met a lot of great people,” she said. “Also, I’ve gotten very interested and enthusiastic about quilting.”

Roehl said she’s always excited to show customers what Prairie Pines has to offer.

“We’ve got a lot of things going on at Prairie Pines Quilt Shop. We have a lot of classes, and we always have new fabric coming in. Row x Row will be starting soon as well as Shop Hop (March 20 to April 4) – two events that people are really interested in,” she said. “We’re always willing to help people who want to get started in quilting or maybe just want some help picking out some fabric for a new project. I encourage people to come in. In addition to having a lot of material, we have a lot of samples that have been made by one of us here.”

Roehl said she’s enjoyed helping not only local customers but also people from outside the WyoBraska region.

“I think our shop looks very, very nice, and people have commented to me that they enjoy coming here,” she said. “We have numerous people who stop here at least once a year on their way through western Nebraska because we’re so friendly.”

Roehl describes the fabric at Prairie Pines Quilt Shop as “top of the line.”

“The fabric that we carry is some of the best that you can purchase,” she said.

Roehl noted that Prairie Pines Quilt Shop offers classes for both beginners and more advanced quilters. One of the upcoming classes is the Cat’s Cradle Class, which is set for Feb. 1. On March 7, Prairie Pines will host the Crazy 6-Zig Zagging Along class, and the Salute class will be held April 4.

On May 2, the class at Prairie Pines is Sand Beach Bag Tuscany Tote, and a class called Spot On will be held June 6.

People may sign up for classes by calling Prairie Pines Quilt Shop at 308-436-5152.

In addition to working at Prairie Pines Quilt Shop, Roehl said she’s also enjoyed helping at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff. She was the Director of Religious Education there for 30 years, and she’s been the Director of Adult Education there for about 15 years.

Roehl, who’s lived in Scottsbluff since 1962, grew up in South Dakota. She graduated from Bonesteel High School in Bonesteel, South Dakota, in 1956, and she then graduated from Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota, in 1960.

She taught at an elementary school in Norfolk for two years. She then got married to Allen Roehl in 1962. Allen passed away in 2000.

They have three children: Susan and Amy, who both live in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and David, who lives in Rawlins, Wyoming.

Kathleen said her hobbies and interests include sewing, reading, gardening, and traveling.
