Ryan Plummer of Sidney High School named TC & More’s Teacher of the Week

Ryan Plummer of Sidney High School has been named TC & More’s Teacher of the Week.

Plummer has been teaching for nine years – all at Sidney High School. He teaches sociology, economics, and law. He’s also the senior class sponsor, FBLA coordinator, and BOS/NYC trip sponsor.

In addition, he’s been an assistant coach for football, head cross country coach, assistant basketball coach, assistant track coach, and he’s currently the head girls golf coach, middle school basketball coordinator for both boys and girls programs, and head boys golf coach. He’s also currently working on their team for Career Pathways.

“Making connections with students is the number one reason that I teach,” Plummer said. “I find that when you make positive connections with students, the teaching takes care of itself. I enjoy the challenges of teaching and coaching a new generation. There are many similarities, but many differences of how I learned in school, and how students these days learn. I find the differences very fascinating (mainly the use of technology). In sports, I love watching players overcome challenges and sometimes being the bridge that gaps the difference between the hardships of achieving their goals and finally obtaining their goals. It’s pretty amazing. Teaching is a very rewarding career with so many positives that I couldn’t possibly list them all.”

Plummer, who graduated from Gering High School in 2005, earned his undergrad degree in business education from Chadron State College in 2010. He earned a master’s degree in administration in 2016.

The person who nominated Plummer for TC & More’s Teacher of the Week honor said, “Ryan is a very dedicated teacher who always wants the best for his students. He’s patient with them, but he also motivates them to always try to do better. He does this in coaching, too. The other reason I think Ryan is a great teacher is that he wants his students to succeed in school, but more importantly, he wants them to succeed in life. I think Ryan is very deserving of the teacher of the week honor.”

Plummer will receive a $10 gift certificate to TC & More, which is located at 1621 Broadway Ave. in downtown Scottsbluff. Gift certificates may be picked up at TC & More.
