Tracy Steele of Lincoln Elementary School in Gering has been named TC & More’s Teacher of the Week.
Steele has worked for Gering Public Schools since fall 1997. She started as a paraprofessional for the High Ability Program. She began teaching at Lincoln Elementary School in the 2001-2002 school year. This is Steele’s 18th year teaching at Lincoln Elementary.
She previously taught second, fourth and sixth grades, and she’s currently back teaching fourth grade.
In addition to teaching, she’s the Student Council sponsor at Lincoln Elementary School and also manages social media and press releases for the school. She is also on the Coalition Leadership team at Lincoln Elementary.
Furthermore, Steele is the co-coordinator of the Cooperative Ministries Weekend Backpack Program and manages the Gering Puppack side. She is in contact with all schools and coordinates the volunteers, shoppers and donations. She also serves as a board member on the Team Ashtyn Foundation and is on the Midwest Theater Board. She is captain of a volunteer team at the Midwest Theater.
Steele graduated from Scottsbluff High School. She then graduated from Western Nebraska Community College with an associate degree in elementary education; Chadron State College with a bachelor’s degree in education; and Olivet Nazarene University with a master’s degree in elementary curriculum. She lives in Scottsbluff.
Additionally, Steele serves on two boards and is active with her church, Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff.
The person who nominated Steele said, “Tracy is one of the nicest and most dedicated, caring and determined teachers I know. She does so much for kids – not just at school but also in the community. She’s truly a difference-maker, and I know her work ethic and passion for helping people, especially kids, inspire many. Tracy is always willing to help anyone at anytime. Tracy never wants anything in return for what she does, but I think she definitely deserves to be recognized for all the awesome things she does at school and in the community.”
Steele said, “Kids are my passion, and there is no other way I would rather spend my day than hanging out with our future. The kids I see year to year are amazing and have so many capabilities. They become family, and I love watching them succeed. My hope is that I can make a difference in someone’s life and make it a little better. My favorite quote is, ‘Be the Change you want to see in the world.’ I try to live that in my life every day.”

Steele will receive a $10 gift certificate to TC & More, which is located at 1621 Broadway Ave. in downtown Scottsbluff. Gift certificates may be picked up at TC & More.
