‘I’m a stronger, better person because of this’

When Drew Haley’s leg was amputated after a football accident in 2018, the Leyton High School student didn’t get angry or become deeply saddened. Instead, he stayed positive and focused on becoming a better person through his adversity. He says he’s now happier than he was before he lost his leg, and he enjoys using his experiences to try to help inspire others.

DALTON – For Drew Haley, a lot has changed for him on the basketball court. He’s not as fast as he was 17 months ago, and his quickness has diminished, too. His jumping ability isn’t quite as good, either.

“I used to be able to grab onto the rim, but now I can’t do that,” he said.

That might have bothered the 18-year-old Leyton High School senior a couple years ago. Nowadays, however, Haley has a different perspective on sports – and life in general. After having his right leg amputated in September 2018, he sees things in a much different light.
